About The Temple

In Hinduism, ‘Devi Shakti’ is worshipped as a principal aspect of the Mother Goddess. She is one of the widely revered Hindu deities associated with protection, strength, motherhood, destruction, and wars. She is widely worshipped by the followers of the Goddess centric Sect of Hinduism, known as Shaktism and has equivalent importance in the other two sects known as Shaivism (followers of Lord Shiva) and Vaishnavism (followers of Lord Vishnu). Hindu religious scriptures revers Devi (the Mother Goddess) as the primordial creator of the universe and the Brahma (ultimate truth and reality). She is the symbol of Mother Nature’s abundance, Feminine Energy with tranquil attributes and martial skills. For Shakta Hindus, her weapons symbolise self-discipline, selfless service to others, self-examination, prayer, devotion, cheerfulness, and meditation. Mother Goddess is venerated for time immemorial with the mention in Hindu scriptures like Vedas, she is worshipped in nine different forms in Hindu temples across India, Nepal, Southeast Asian countries and in the countries outside Indian subcontinent where Hindus are residing.

The idea of the Hindu Devi Mandir and Cultural Centre (HDM) stemmed from a collective vision and aspiration of the Hindu Bengali Community residing in parts of East Midland, East of England, and Southeast of England. It has flourished with time as a result of the enthusiasm and endeavours of members, who believe in Hinduism. The initiative was given a formal shape during a meeting in 2019, in order to establish a Hindu Temple and a spiritual Centre specifically dedicated to ‘Devi Shakti’ (Goddess of Power) considered as the feminine epitome of strength
